Research Associate: Statistician

The Institute for Community Research (ICR), a non-profit community-based research organization located in Hartford, Connecticut, has an immediate opening for a full time Research Associate with a strong background in quantitative data analysis and statistics.  The Research Associate will work on HIV/AIDS prevention studies to assist in cleaning, management and analysis of cross-sectional, longitudinal and network data in federally-funded, multi-year research projects.  Studies include: 1) an ongoing study of female condom utilization and acceptability in Hartford, 2) a new study to test a female condom intervention in China, and 3) a longitudinal study of a peer delivered intervention among drug users in Hartford.

The Research Associate will work with the interdisciplinary project teams and will be responsible for assisting with statistical analyses of survey data including, but not limited to, exploratory analyses, data reduction, repeated measures and ANCOVA modeling.   S/he will also be involved in the development and critique of quantitative data collection instruments and construction of databases.  Experience with causal modeling is required.   The Research Associate must understand statistical foundation behind models and must work accurately, effectively, and independently to meet deadlines and be able to prioritize tasks related to his/her own responsibilities to meet goals of the teams.  Experience with qualitative data analysis and an interest in combining quantitative and qualitative data analyses desirable.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring data entry and quality control
  • Organizing regular reports to principal investigators and project research staff on the status of data and data analysis
  • Analyzing data for reports and publications
  • Participating in integration of qualitative and quantitative data conceptually and in publications and reports
  • Joint authoring of publications related to studies, including lead authorship as appropriate.
  • Participation in development and grant writing as appropriate, including the possibility of taking the lead on future grants
  • Participation in activities of the ICR including other research activities, staff meetings, committee meetings, conferences, etc.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in social or behavioral science, education, or public health, with a strong emphasis on statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or related quantitative field; solid experience working with SPSS; familiarity with standard statistical model fitting and checking techniques are required.  The Research Associate should also be comfortable working in a community-based setting, across disciplines, and with multiple projects at the same time.  Excellent communication and writing skills are required.
